Twinkle twinkle little star – Helmsley Library shines for local amateur astronomers this Dark Skies Festival

Helmsley Community Library will be getting involved in the Dark Skies Festival 2020 with displays on star gazing for amateur astronomers of all ages.

From 14th February to 1st March, the library will feature a display of relevant books, leaflets and information along with a telescope, so people can make the most of the festival.

With the country’s national parks being some of the best places to view the night sky without light pollution, the Dark Skies Festival is organised by the North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales National Park Authorities. With the focus on discovering, learning and enjoying the dark and the stars you can see as a result, over 100 events will be taking place across the region to mark the fifth Dark Skies Festival.

Helmsley Library, which is run entirely by volunteers, is situated in the Town Hall and is open: Tuesday, 10am to 1pm; Wednesday, 10am to 1pm; Thursday, 10am to 4pm; Friday, 10am to 4pm; and Saturday, 10am to 1pm.
