Porters B&B

Porters B&B

Part of our spacious 3 floor private apartment above the best coffee shop in town 🙂 we have 2 large newly renovated and private en-suite quality rooms with period features right in the Centre of this vibrant market town, both with views of the historic Helmsley Castle.

Rooms have comfortable divan beds, luxury unique bathrooms including a Victorian style freestanding bath in room 1, and both have large waterfall showers. Complimentary toiletries from Bramley, made in the UK with natural botanicals, fluffy towels and Egyptian cotton bed linen, so you are guaranteed a relaxing stay.

Private access after check-in is available with your own key. Breakfast served downstairs (no full English served ) Guests are welcome in their own private en-suite rooms, and have use of a shared communal area upstairs for desk working, or to put your feet up. There are no cooking facilities, but Helmsley has a range of great dining options which we are happy to point out to you or book for you, and local shops are on the doorstep if you fancy shopping and feeding yourself, there is space to sit and enjoy your local produce finds. The coffee shop downstairs is open from early until teatime for refreshments if required.

Check in is available from 3pm until 6pm, or by arrangement at other times, please let us know what time you expect to arrive when booking. We have 1 space parking reserved for guests, but please ask when you book for more information, we will try and help with this where we can. Public transport is limited in our rural area, but we can advise if you wish to get here without your car, by bus, train (Malton or Thirsk are the nearest rail stations).

Monia is also happy to pick up drop off and guide by car locally by agreement, or we can find you a local recommended taxi to help you go further afield, but everything you really need for a great short stay can be found in Helmsley!

Porters B&B is in the heart of Helmsley, a stone’s throw from the market square. Helmsley is a compact, historic town, with fabulous attractions like Helmsley Walled Garden, International Centre for Birds of Prey, Helmsley Castle and great independent shopping and local eateries like Gepetto Italian restaurant. Very close nearby we have a number of Michelin starred eateries like The Black Swan at Oldstead and The Star at Harome, and other fantastic restaurants like The Pheasant Hotel in Harome just 3 miles out of town. Spectacular Rievaulx Abbey is just 3 miles walk, or a quick drive.

Possibilities for touring the North York Moors with Helmsley as your base are truly endless, whether on foot, by car, horseback or bike. The town is peaceful by night, and vibrant by day, with a laid back and friendly true Yorkshire welcome for all. The Coast including Whitby, is not far to visit, and the Yorkshire Dales are not too far either for a day trip. You may recognize Helmsley from recent TV including ITV’s Victoria, which was filmed in Duncombe Park, where you can walk along the river or enjoy the gardens direct from our door, it’s entrance is just across the road.

For a small town, we have great facilities including our own microbrewery, spa, and Summer lido and the Cleveland Way national trail starts here. There are many options, but public transport is limited, in our rural area.

There is a regular daytime bus (128) and the Moors Bus on weekends. We can often help with transport, or can recommend local services. We don’t want guests to rush around too much though – enjoy watching the World go by instead from our terrace or the market square, Helmsley has a unique atmosphere and the slow pace of life will rejuvenate, refresh and inspire you.
