Holly Garth

Holly-Garth is an individual and superbly equipped 4 Star, Gold Award holiday cottage in a quiet position close to the centre of the pretty market town of Helmsley, on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors. The house is a comfortable home from home, sleeping 8 people with private parking and a sheltered courtyard garden.

Holly Garth

Holly-Garth is directly managed by the owners, Nick and Gray, who bought the house in 2008. Holly-Garth has accreditation in the Walkers Welcome and Cyclists Welcome schemes. In October 2018, Holly-Garth was awarded a Four Star Gold Award for the ninth year in a row by Visit England for the high standard of their accommodation and customer service.

They have constantly made improvements and changes to the property, to keep it fresh, and to give their many repeat customers nice surprises to look forward to each time they visit. Ann and Nick have stayed in many different self-catering properties in the UK and abroad, and have set out to make Holly-Garth everything that they would wish for in a holiday cottage. They and family and friends very much enjoy spending what time there that they can.

The house works very well for family groups, with a split landing and two bedrooms at each end. There are two bathrooms upstairs including an ensuite, and a Shower/WC downstairs. One of the bedrooms even has a view of the Castle across the rooftops. There are also two sitting rooms downstairs, each with television, to help with arguments over what to watch. The house is equipped with high speed WIFI broadband. They have been delighted to welcome a number of brides’ parties, grooms’ parties, special birthday celebrations and family reunions. It is due to the comfort of the house, that Ann and Nick have also welcomed many couples or small groups, as well, who have enjoyed the space, convenience and privacy of the house.

All bed linen and towels are provided, and in the winter, logs, coal and firelighters are available for guests to enjoy the log burner in the front sitting room. In the summer, the barbecue and outdoor entertaining areas provide a great deal of enjoyment.

Helmsley is a very pretty, compact and friendly town, with many shops including its own department store, a small branch of Browns of York. Other shops include superb bakeries, butchers, delicatessens, clothes shops, shoe shops, jewellers and gift shops. There is a variety of restaurants, coffee shops pubs, hotels and bistros including two fish and chip shops, two Italian restaurants, an Indian restaurant, and even a tapas bar. The Helmsley Arts Centre, just around the corner from Holly-Garth hosts many events throughout the year, including drama, speakers, live music, and a cinema. In the summer, the town’s heated open air swimming pool is open for use, and there is also a pool and spa at the Feversham Arms in Helmsley.

Also in the town, Duncombe park hosts the fascinating International Birds of Prey Centre, and the Walled Garden and Helmsley Castle are only a short walk from the square, which holds a market on Fridays. The Cleveland Way begins in Helmsley, with a beautiful walk to the spectacular ruins of Rievaulx Abbey. The Grandeur of the North Yorkshire Moors begins only a short distance from the town, and trips to the seaside are enjoyed by many, with Whitby and Scarborough easily accessible by car or by bus. Just down the road at Pickering, the North Yorkshire Moors Railway offers steam-powered transport as far as Whitby. To the south, Helmsley is within easy reach of York, with its ancient walls, Minster, museums, and fascinating shops.
