Hunters of Helmsley clinches Independent Retailer of the Year Award

Hunters of Helmsley is celebrating winning the Independent Retailer of the Year award at Yorkshire Life’s prestigious Food & Drink Awards 2015.

The store, which has been based on Helmsley’s Market Place for 25 years, was commended for its wide and varied range of products, innovate approach to partnerships, customer service and helpful staff who are “never phased”.

Helmsley was also home to another big winner at the event – the Black Swan Hotel, which was awarded the title of Hotel of the Year.

The awards are designed to champion the good and the great from the region’s food and drink industry, including local producers and suppliers, chefs, restaurants, pubs and hoteliers.

The win comes on the back of Hunters being awarded the title of Britain’s Best Small Shop at the House of Commons in the Spring.

Chris Garnett, who owns the deli with his wife Christine, accepted the Yorkshire Life award at an event at Rudding Park Hotel on Monday 21st September. He commented: “It’s always so amazing to win any award, but particularly one which has been nominated and voted for by members of the public. We’d like to take this opportunity to say thank you to our team who work very hard to try and create a fantastic shopping experience for our customers. We want them to look forward to visiting and to know they’ll always find both old favourites and exciting new things to try – and that they are guaranteed a warm Yorkshire welcome. It’s an honour to work with so many fantastic local suppliers and producers and we’re very passionate about keeping trade local where we can. It was also fantastic to see our neighbours in Helmsley, the Black Swan, win Hotel of the Year, which is very well deserved!”
