Get a slice of the action at Helmsley’s Big Cheese

Thomas of Helmsley to hold a cheese tasting event on 14th October

First in a series of tasting events to introduce the newly renovated store to customers

The newly reopened Thomas of Helmsley will be running the first in a series of tasting events on Saturday 14th October – dubbed the Big Cheese.

From 10.30am onwards, there will be a selection of cheeses and related items available to try, along with experts to help customers find the perfect product, and to offer advice on how to serve.

Thomas of Helmsley fully reopened last month following a £750,000 investment, which saw the deli undergo a complete makeover inside and out. Helmsley’s Thomas the Baker has now been incorporated within the store, along with a butchers, greengrocery, deli and cheese counters and store cupboard items. The renovations have allowed the deli to offer a broader and increased range of produce. The cheese counter has now doubled in size allowing a much wider selection of fine cheeses.

Ian Barlow from award-winning cheesemakers Carron Lodge will be offering tastings of a selection of cheeses, from firm favourites to some new and exciting flavours.

Alongside the cheese, customers can sample some complimentary products from one of Yorkshire’s best-known preserve and chutney makers, Bracken Hill. With all its ingredients grown locally (even the chillies), the company also makes a series of pickles and jams for Thomas the Baker, following the bakery’s own closely guarded recipes.

You can’t have cheese without crackers, and so a range of products from Peter’s Yard – which introduced Swedish Crispbread to the UK – will be available to complement everything from a humble Cheddar to the bluest of stiltons.

Simon Thomas, General Manager, said “Because the renovations have allowed us to introduce new products and grow many of the ranges we offer, we’re keen to introduce shoppers to what is now in store – and what better way than letting them taste it! Cheese is one of life’s ‘grate’ pleasures but it’s easy to get stuck in a rut, always choosing the same variety. We’re hoping to help visitors find some new favourites and also some interesting new accompaniments. It should be a brie-liant day – you’d be crackers to miss it!”

Thomas of Helmsley will be holding a series of tasting events in the run up to Christmas, to introduce the new store and its wider range of produce. For more information visit www.thomasthebaker.co.uk/deli-and-butchers
