Get Creative at Helmsley Library – WI to host three-day creative festival

Helmsley WI is encouraging the town to Get Creative, with a special event being held at Helmsley Library.

On 16th, 17th and 18th May, the Get Creative Festival will be encouraging visitors and residents alike to drop in and see craft demonstrations – and try them out for themselves.

Each session will introduce a different craft, including block printed cards, Dorset buttons, mini fabric wreaths, Japanese style fabric balls, origami, and paper folded gift boxes.

Visitors will also be encouraged to add a few stitches to Helmsley WI’s fun, medieval style embroidered panel and put their name on the list of contributors.

The Get Creative Festival 2019 (www.getcreativeuk.com) is run by a nationwide voluntary arts group which encourages people to try their hand at something new and creative. This national celebration of creativity aims to give everyone the chance to get actively involved in a creative event in their local area.

Jeanne Brown, who chairs the Helmsley Community Library Steering Group and trustees, working with other volunteers, said: “We’re delighted to be hosting the Get Creative Festival, and would love to welcome as many people to it as possible. There’ll be lots going on, so even if you come along to one session, you can come along to the next and be doing something completely different. It’s a great opportunity to learn new creative skills, have fun and meet people. We also can’t wait to see the finished embroidered panel. It will be lovely for all of our community to contribute to something so creative and beautiful.”

On Thursday 16th and Friday 17th May the sessions will run from 10.30-12.30 and 1.30-3.30, and on Saturday 18th May there will just be a morning session from 10.30-12.30.
