First Helmsley Artisan Food Market hailed a success

The first Helmsley Artisan Food Market, held on 29th March, has been hailed a huge success with a “strong steady stream” of vistors through the door.

The market takes place on the final Friday of every month in the Town Hall, and already has a variety of local artisan food producers hosting stalls including Lacey’s Cheese, Acorn Preserves, The Clucking Pig, Sawley Kitchen, Yorkshire Orchard, Solange Bakery, Really Indian, The Butcher and the Baker and Rare and Native breeds.

As well as being able to buy everything from Scotch eggs, pies, meats and bread, to meringues, jams, and fresh fruit juice, the event will also hold a raffle to raise money for local causes. This month’s raffle was in aid of Helmsley Library and the market will next month fundraise for the rebuilding of the local Scout hut.

Annika Dowson, who is behind the market, said: “We were delighted with how well the first market went, with a strong, steady stream of visitors across the day and lots of happy faces. The Helmsley Artisan Food Market adds an extra dimension to the town’s existing weekly outdoor market, giving yet another great reason to come to Helmsley to see all the town has to offer. The Town Hall is a wonderful community run building which we all need to support, and the Artisan Food Market also allows people to support local and community producers which they may not otherwise have access to. We have so many amazing restaurants and cafes, food stores and delis, producers and growers on our doorstep – it seems only right to do all we can to champion the region’s enviable food credentials here in Helmsley.”

The next market will be held at Helmsley Town Hall on 26th April, between 9am and 2pm. For more information or anyone interested in attending as a trader should contact Annika Dowson on
