Dirty Hero – take on the ultimate North Yorkshire challenge event of 2017!

With a month to go till the first event, we are looking for teams to take on the challenge and unleash their inner hero at Newburgh Priory in May and Duncombe Park in July!

There’ll be walls to climb and tunnels to crawl through, as well as plenty of water, mud, ice, electricity and fire to take on! Competitors, working in teams or as individuals, will face 30+ daunting obstacles such as ‘Flaming Hell’, ‘Cliffhanger’ and ‘Waterfall’. They can find out what it’s like to be fed through a mangle, face a ‘Loose Cannon’ to wash the mud off, jump ‘Grand National’ hurdles and take on the ultimate ‘Leap of Faith’, all the while being cheered on by supporters and helping other “heroes” accomplish the challenges around them.

We are looking for more teams to step up to the challenge and take on the likes of Minster FM and Energi Trampoline Park … are you up to it?

Organiser Peter Mathieson explained where the idea for Dirty Hero came from. “We increasingly need heroes; life can be tough for many different reasons and we all face challenges, with some people facing more challenges than others. Heroes are all around us, in all shapes and forms – Olympic medallists, yes, but also carers who put their own lives on hold for their loved ones, countless volunteers, emergency service workers and the armed forces, mums, dads and grandparents doing their best. The list is endless and we all see different people as heroes. Now we want to encourage people to think about their heroes, unleash their own inner heroes – and have some fun!”

The challenges are designed to push competitor’s boundaries and get them facing fears to complete the course, all the while helping to a hand to others along the way. Dirty Hero director, Paul, said: “It’s all based on camaraderie, you need some teamwork at some of the obstacles, perhaps help getting someone over a wall or out of some mud or offering some encouraging words if they’re about to leap from a platform or plunge into icy water.”

Competitors can take part as individuals or in teams of four or more. The earlier the entry and the bigger the team, the bigger the discount!

Peter, Paul’s brother and Dirty Hero co-founder, said anyone who does the challenge for charity will receive help with promotion. “Those people are heroes before they even set foot on the course,” he said. “We will gladly shout loudly about their efforts to raise money for a good cause.”

All about Dirty Hero

Dirty Hero is a 10-mile (or 5 mile) obstacle course challenge designed to test the true hero in you.

We all know heroes go above and beyond to help other people, to complete Dirty Hero you’ll need to call on these qualities, not only to get yourself around the course but to help others around you complete the challenge as well.

Dirty Hero is very much based on camaraderie and will certainly require elements of teamwork at some of the obstacles. Teamwork as we see if is helping people around you, a simple leg up over one of the higher walls, a helping hand to get a fellow hero out of the mud pit or even words of encouragement to somebody near you who is contemplating jumping into ice cold water or leaping from a platform.

It doesn’t matter if you enter as an individual or as part of a team, at Dirty Hero we are all one big team, united with one goal in mind, let’s pull together to overcome the amazing challenges laid out around the course. Yes, for sure you will be tested and pushed out of your comfort zone, but consider the satisfaction of conquering those challenges of overcoming your doubts and achieving something that is truly worthy of hero status.

Don’t let excuses like I’m not fit enough or I don’t think I could get over that obstacle, put you off. You can be sure there are others thinking the exact same thing, but with a little determination and courage, you too can become a hero.

Participants do not need to be able to swim. The minimum age to take part is 16 with no upper limit on age, we openly encourage people of all ages to take part and enjoy the amazing atmosphere of Dirty Hero. Spectators can view the excitement for FREE. Anyone who chooses to volunteer at one of the Dirty Hero events will receive a free ticket to another event organised by the Mathiesons. As well as Dirty Hero, the pair arrange many triathlons, including the Ripon Triathlon 2017, through their company Freebird Events. This year the company celebrates ten years in business.
