Helmsley in Business and Wharfedale Homes announce partnership

Helmsley in Business and Wharfedale Homes have announced they will partner up in 2017 to help new members of the community settle into the award-winning town.

Launched back in 2012, Helmsley in Business was set up with the aim of encouraging business growth in the town, making it a vibrant and fulfilling place to live, work and visit. Keen to avoid the fate of struggling high streets the country over, the group, which now comprises more than 60 members, banded together to form innovative partnerships and consider how they could continue to make the town’s many independent businesses appealing to visitors and local residents alike. The group has been so successful it last year beat off stiff competition to win the accolade of Britain’s Best Market Town in the Great British High Street Awards.

The latest partnership with Wharfedale Homes will see the two organisations work together to welcome new residents to the town with support and information. The homebuilder will also help support the group’s marketing, starting with the reprinting and distributing of the town’s successful brochure. Almost 150,000 have been distributed over the last two years, and it is now available to download in English, Dutch and Chinese on the Visit Helmsley website, to aid international visitors, with plans for further translations in the pipeline.

Wharfedale Homes was recently shortlisted for Best Small Developer in the Residential Property Awards following the development of their Linkfoot Lane site in Helmsley. The high-quality new-build homes are built in limestone, to blend sympathetically into the picturesque market town, and all the properties are now sold. The next Wharfedale Homes development of 60 more Helmsley houses, just around the corner at Swanland Road, is due to commence shortly.

Carolyn Frank, chair of Helmsley in Business and owner of the town’s Libby Butler Jewellers, said: “We see this as a win-win situation. We are grateful to have Wharfedale Homes as the developer working in Helmsley, as they are sympathetic to the feel of the town and the development will grow gradually over three years. Much as we don’t want to over develop the area, there is a shortage of housing which needed to be addressed. Obviously there will be new people moving into the town, so we are keen to integrate them into Helmsley as residents and potential business owners or employees. So it makes sense to work together to ensure people get the famous warm Helmsley welcome, feel part of the community and are aware of the amenities on their new doorstep.

“Wharfedale homes are a great company to work with, due to their enthusiasm and community focused ethos. We have Helmsley in Business members potentially looking to buy homes too, so it really is going to be a true partnership which we hope will be long lasting and mutually beneficial.  Helmsley is such a great community to work in, and it’s a lovely place to live for the whole family, so it’s not surprising that once you work here in the North York Moors and truly discover the town, you start to want to fully relocate and live here too!”

Chris Patmore, managing director at Wharfedale Homes added: “Helmsley in Business work tirelessly to enhance what the town has to offer to both residents and visitors. Last year’s Visit Helmsley brochures did a fantastic job at attracting visitors. We are pleased to support the project for 2017 and to drive more and more visitors to the area to discover what a wonderful town it is.

“Some of the homes due to be built will be available for rent to people living or working locally who are struggling to find a home in the area. We are also building nine modern, open-plan single-storey homes with two and three bedrooms after identifying significant demand for this type of property.”
