Crafty Pair run Christmas Workshops in Helmsley

Needle felting festive classes to take place on 19th November and 4th December

Anyone looking to get creative this Christmas can sign up to two special Christmas needle felting workshops taking place in Helmsley.

The Crafty Pair, which is run by Hils Hawkins and Barbara Hirst, is putting on two special events to help wannabe crafters learn some new Christmas decoration making skills, while getting into the festive spirit.

The first takes place on Tuesday 19th November, between 6pm and 9pm at Helmsley Library, where Hils and Barbara will be showing participants how to make Christmas hanging baubles.

The second will teach crafters how to make angels and will be held on Wednesday 4th December at Porter’s Coffee Shop, from 6pm to 9pm.

Both workshops cost £20 per person to include all materials, drinks and nibbles. There will also be the opportunity to purchase additional wool and needles, along with Christmas gifts.

The Crafty Pair opened on Helmsley’s Cleveland Way in December 2018. It offers a retail outlet selling materials, handmade gifts and work from local crafters, including a silver maker, wood turner, needleworker, glass worker, jeweller, photographer, knitter and potter. It also offers year-round workshops and courses specialising in needle felted products and private parties for craft lovers.

Hils Hawkins said: “Both workshops are for those either who know a little or who have had no previous experience of needle felting – so there’s no need to worry you won’t know what you’re doing! They will be a great evening out doing a lovely craft and getting into the Christmas spirit.

“In our workshops we do mainly simple shape creatures, such as owls, penguins, gnomes, robins, santas, angels and hedgehogs. Some of our more regular crafters are going to move on to more complex things in the coming year, such as wet felting. We use the best products we can source and always try to support British wools, which is particularly important to me because my daughter and son in law run a sheep farm near Helmsley. We also source from a local lady who not only has her own small flock, but prepares, dyes and spins yarns and spinners wools.”

Places at the workshops must be booked in advance by calling 01439 770332, or by calling into The Crafty Pair shop on Cleveland Way.
