Summer fundraising event to help Helmsley shine bright

Families invited to enjoy some summer fun while raising money to ensure Helmsley dazzles at Christmas

A special summer event is being held in Helmsley to raise money for the town’s Christmas Lights Fund.

Organised by the Helmsley in Business group, the event will take place at the award-winning National Centre for Birds of Prey (NCBP) at Duncombe Park on 12th August.

Opening at 6pm and finishing at 10pm, the event will start with a flying display from some of the NCBP’s favourite fliers, including Carlton, the African Fish Eagle, Polo, a baby Brown Wood Owl and Nevis the Merlin. The festivities will continue on with a barbecue, pay bar and a disco playing hits and requests from the 70s up to the modern day.

Ticket prices include a free burger and a free drink. Available from Todds Newsagents, Crema Coffee, and Viva Hair, they cost £10 for an adult and £5 for a child, or £25 for a family (two adults and two children).

Jacky Pickering, chair of Helmsley in Business, who runs The Stick Man Shop with husband Keith, said: “We hope as many people as possible come along and support the event, which promises to be a really fun evening. The displays from Charlie and the team at the NCBP are always fantastic, and everyone loves a disco and barbecue! Any money we raise will go towards the Christmas lights for the town, which we are trying to improve year-on-year. Helmsley is such a magical place to be at Christmas, and the lights really add to that feeling. So although it pains us all to be thinking of dark nights just yet, let’s make the most of the summer evenings while we can!”
