‘See’ you at Helmsley Community Library’s half term workshop

Helmsley Community Library will be running a special half term event for families on the subject of how people see.

‘Just how do we see’ will run on Wednesday 30th May from 1.30pm until 2.30pm. During the free workshop children can use and make optical illusions, showing how our brains can be easily deceived. The workshop will show how white light is broken up by making some special glasses and everything the families learn will be put into practice by competing in a race using lasers. There’s also the opportunity to make a model eyeball – completely out of sweets!

Jeanne Brown, who chairs the Helmsley Community Library Steering Group and trustees, working with other volunteers, said: “We held a similar event last year which was really popular, so we thought half term was an ideal time to run it again, and help parents to keep their young ones entertained, without spending a penny! The youngsters always really like the optical trick they get to take home with them to try out on family and friends, and it’s a great way to get them considering the science behind it.”
