Helmsley offers late night crafty Christmas shopping event

Helmsley Walled Garden to open for a special evening event on 11th December

December 11th will see a special Christmas event take place at the craft workshops at Helmsley Walled Garden.

Visitors will be able to enjoy a night of Christmas shopping and festive celebrations, on the evening of Friday 11th December from 5pm to 7pm.

As well as providing the perfect opportunity for a spot of shopping, the independent businesses based around the Walled Garden will also be putting on special activities for the evening. Keith Pickering, the famous ‘Stick Man’ who has produced items for the big screen, such as the magic stick used by Nanny McPhee in the much-loved film, will be doing a stick making demonstration. David Tomlinson from the Helmsley Natural Health Clinic will be talking to people about the Emmett Technique and Bowen Therapy. There will be homemade fruit cake and gingerbread samples at Celebrate Country Cake Design. The Walled Garden shop will be open for wreaths and Christmas gifts – as well as sampling mulled wine. Lazenby Visuals will be running special offers and framing demonstrations, and local artist Peter Mattinson will be in the studio painting.

The walkway from the Cleveland Way car park will be lit with lights, and there will also be carol singing and festive music. From 5pm to 6pm two students from Ryedale School, Elise Symes-Turnbull and Hannah Richardson, will be singing, accompanied by fellow student Oliver Searn on acoustic guitar.

Chris Lazenby, from Lazenby Visuals, said: “The businesses in Helmsley are so supportive of each other and we really wanted to do something together to encourage visitors to come and see what the craft units and Walled Garden have to offer. It’s such a beautiful place to be based, and will look magical with the Christmas lights and decorations. We look forward to welcoming lots of visitors on 11th, with the intoxicating scents of gingerbread and mulled wine and the promise of an entertaining evening!”
