Helmsley in Business welcomes 12 new members and offers an open invitation for AGM

Independent business group Helmsley in Business is celebrating welcoming 12 new members during the last year – whilst encouraging other potential new members to come along to the group’s annual AGM this month to find out more.

Helmsley in Business (HiB) now has 57 members – a far cry from the two local businesses who came together in 2012 to launch the group.

The ultimate aim of HiB is to support the many independent businesses based in Helmsley, by ensuring the town remains busy and vibrant. Its efforts were rewarded when last year the group led the town to victory in the Great British High Street Awards, winning the best market town category. Other achievements in the last 12 months include launching a brand new website – www.visithelmsley.co.uk – as well as organising multiple events and improved Christmas lights within the town, for the enjoyment of both local residents and visiting tourists.

The AGM takes place on Tuesday 19th April at 6pm at the National Centre for Birds of Prey at Duncombe Park. As well as discussing activities and ideas, new committee members will be elected, and there will be opportunities for networking. A birds of prey flying demonstration will also take place. Any business representative from Helmsley is welcome to attend to find out more, although regrettably the group is unable to accept members from other nearby towns at the present time.

New members to HiB over the previous 12 months have included Antiques & Interiors, Bisca, Bondgate Antiques, Country Dogs, Gepettos Italian restaurant, Helmsley Garden Cottage, Helmsley Natural Health Clinic, Lazenby Visuals, Marleys Butchers, RED taxis, Tulchan and Veneto.

Christine Garnett, secretary of Helmsley in Business and co-owner of Hunters of Helmsley, said: “We’re delighted to have welcomed so many new members in the last year, it’s always fantastic to have fresh ideas and new faces. 2015 was quite a year with lots achieved and lots of fond memories – it’s going to be quite some act to top it this year! We have a rolling two year committee, and unfortunately at the AGM we have to say goodbye to some great people. We’d like to say a big thank you to Lizzie Rohan, as chairman, Emma Woods as Treasurer and Tony Webster and Tony Porter as committee members – who have given their all to the group. We hope to see some potential new members at the AGM, and hopefully have some great new nominations for the committee.”
