Fab for families

Families are always welcome in Helmsley and there’s plenty to do to keep everyone entertained from age one to one hundred.

If you enjoy history, head to Helmsley Castle to explore hundreds of years of intrigue and mystery. The perfect place to play at being Knights and Princesses (and that’s just the grown ups…)

Animal lovers can marvel at the displays at the International Centre for Birds of Prey, and get up close and personal with some feathered friends. Helmsley can also offer horse riding for those who like to explore on saddle.

In the summer months Helmsley opens up its open air swimming pool – one of only 100 lidos left in the country. It’s the perfect way to cool down, or work up an appetite for one of the fantastic, family friendly restaurants in the town. From fish and chips and fine dining to a light lunch or coffee and cake, Helmsley has it all. Not forgetting all the wonderful locally made ice creams and gelatos!

If young ones need to run off some energy, there’s a great adventure playground tucked away in the centre of town, a beck to paddle in and miles and miles of beautiful walks to take in all the lovely fresh air, spectacular scenery and to do a bit of wildlife spotting.

Keep an eye open for the many events taking place throughout the year in the town too – from LittleFest to the Festive Fun Day and annual Christmas Tree Festival, there’s always plenty going on!
