We’re delighted to reveal some exciting new aids for anyone wanting to explore beautiful Helmsley and the surrounding countryside on foot.
Helmsley in Business and Ryedale District Council have worked with the iFootpath app to develop five fantastic walks to suit walkers of all abilities.
Helmsley is the perfect destination for walkers – the town’s convenient location, the great amenities, and the peaceful and tranquil countryside that surrounds it combine to create something very special.
The walks have been developed based on hints and tips from Helmsley in Business members. They can be downloaded from the iFootpath app, and once downloaded, the app has no requirement for mobile phone signal, meaning it can be used in very rural locations. The app is both Apple and Android compatible. The walks are also available as FREE downloadable documents here and as print outs at the town’s Visitor Information Point at the Cut Price Book Store.
The walking guides include maps, photos, written instructions, a suggested time requirement, details about access and a difficulty rating.
The five Helmsley walks currently mapped out are:
Helmsley and Beck Dale (6.5 miles) – Download the route map here
Helmsley and Riccal Dale (8 miles) – Download the route map here
Helmsley and Rievaulx Abbey (7 miles) – Download the route map here
Helmsley and the River Rye (4 miles) – Download the route map here
Helmsley Discovery Trail (1 mile) – Download the route map here
All the walks start and end in Helmsley, so walkers can make a day of it or even a weekend, staying at one of the town’s many award-winning accommodation providers. We have ample long stay parking and a wide choice of reviving refreshments in our independent coffee shops, pubs and restaurants – or of course, there are lots of places to pick up some local goodies for a picnic. We even have a world class spa which is perfect for tired legs! Walkers will always get a warm welcome in Helmsley – and their dogs too, so there’s no reason four legged friends can’t join in the fun.
So whether you’re a hobby walker or a major enthusiast, why not come and explore a new route you’ve never tried before. There are of course many more that have not yet been mapped, but these are a great start to get to know the town and its surrounding area. We hope you enjoy!
