Honour for Helmsley Town Crier to perform outside the gates of Windsor Castle

Following the success of the Helmsley Town Crier Competition, David Hinde to compete in four competitions in South Devon and Windsor

With temperatures set to remain at record levels and a storm heading for the West Country this weekend, spare a thought for Helmsley’s Town Crier in his full regalia, set to honour the town in competitions across the south of England.

Hot off the back of hosting a National Town Crier Competition of his own, David Hinde is set to honour Helmsley by taking part in a very special 40th Anniversary Ancient & Honourable Guild Of Town Criers’ Guild Championships outside the main gates of Windsor Castle on Saturday 4th August.

The special Windsor Guild Championship, which has never been held at the Castle before, with the kind permission of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, is using the Outer Moat Lawn and just by the main Castle Gates and will have over 40 Criers taking part, from both UK and overseas.

Before then, on 27th, 28th and 29th July, David Hinde will be defending his three trophies at three competitions which he won last year in South Devon. David will be looking to retain the Sir Francis Drake Armada Cup Overall Trophy, competing against Criers including Helmsley Competition winner Ed Christopher of Bermuda.

David Hinde said: “With regard to Windsor, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to showcase Helmsley in this Royal Town and to have my photo in regalia taken against this beautiful Castle. I shall be proclaiming Helmsley’s virtues and encouraging the many Windsor tourists to head north to Helmsley.

“Before then, I set off for Salcombe’s competition which takes place on Friday, where last year it was torrential rain outside the National Trust property ‘Overbecks’. Saturday will see me competing in Kingsbridge and Sunday is the finale in Dartmouth.

“The close timing of the competitions to each other and so soon after the Helmsley Town Crier Competition will be a real test. So, wish me luck!
